Introduction

Traditional IC vehicles have been the most common form of automotive transportation, but there is a noticeable shift towards EVs due to increasing concerns about climate change and global warming. EVs are being called the future of the automotive industry, this article enlists the numerous reasons as to why it is being called that.

Reduced greenhouse gas emissions 

The first and the most important environmental benefit that these cars offer is reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Although the production of batteries causes a little pollution, it isn’t as high as the emissions the IC vehicles cause. The production of EVs creates emissions higher than the production of IC vehicles, but this is compensated for as the emissions an IC vehicle creates in a lifetime is way higher when compared to EVs as they produce zero direct emissions. 

 

Less dependence on fossil fuels

As fossil fuels are a non-renewable resource, it must be used wisely and with EVs the role of fossil fuels in automobiles is nearly vanished. Electricity is a safer thing to bet on as there are multiple ways you can generate electricity such as solar and wind.

EVs have electric motors which operates very quietly when compared to the IC vehicles which results in reduced noise pollution. This benefit is highly noticeable in urban areas where the noise pollution caused by vehicles can have a very bad impact on the quality of life. All in all EVs contribute to a more peaceful and quiet environment.

It is to be noted that the environmental benefits of EVs can be significantly maximized when the electricity used to charge the battery of these vehicles is generated from renewable sources.

EV operation and maintenance costs are almost 50% lower than that of internal combustion vehicles. All EVs have the feature of regenerative braking which converts the kinetic energy which is generated during braking into electric energy and directs it to the battery which in-turn increases the range of the battery which leads to decreasing the frequency of having to charge the vehicle.

The IC vehicles run primarily on gasoline which can be highly expensive. Charging an EV is significantly cheaper than refuelling a gasoline or diesel vehicle. Additionally the availability of off-peak charging rates or free charging at particular locations can further lower operational costs.

 

Quieter and smoother driving experience

As mentioned earlier EVs have an electric motor which operates with very less sound and can lead to a more peaceful driving experience when compared to an IC vehicle. This is also due to the absence of the typical engine noise and vibrations associated with IC vehicles.

Regenerative braking not only regenerates electricity, but it also offers a smoother and controlled deceleration as compared to traditional braking systems. Most EVs are automatic and hence the need for frequent gear shifts is eliminated resulting in a seamless and uninterrupted acceleration without jerky movements.

 

Technological advancements

The technological advancements in this field is what makes it a sustainable model as there are technological advancements in the world all the time. The technological advancements and market efforts are growing steadily with constant support from the government.

There are improvements in the charging technology, battery tech and various other aspects every now and then. EV companies have also begun to plan to incorporate autonomous driving which is a very big leap, if successful this technology can reduce the number of crashes and accidents and also make long distance travels highly convenient. It can reduce the costs related to the accidents or mishaps as well.

As there are a few factors like poor charging infrastructure and battery range that have been influencing the minds of prospective customers lately, Multiple technological enhancements are foreseen.

In conclusion, electric vehicles are undeniably the future of the automotive industry. With their numerous advantages and the growing emphasis on sustainability, EVs are poised to revolutionize the automobile industry and shape a greener and more efficient future.
